We are continuing to stay at Green Turtle Bay Marina. We will plan on leaving Oct 1 or 2. The Cumberland Yacht Club was finally open on Weds and we went there for dinner. It is built on concrete pillars and has a gorgeous view. Some of the things they do are fun. Instead of pictures of member’s boats, there are wooden name boards. It is fun to read the walls. Also on the back of the menu they have a list of the activities (races, club events, etc.) for the year. They also have a nice bar. Now, that wouldn’t be so unusual in a yacht club except this is a dry county so selling alcohol is not permitted. I am sure you know how everyone gets around this. You bring your own stuff, whatever you want to drink. Then hand it to the hostess and the waiter or bartender serves it to you. Seems a little nuts to us but that’s the way it works. The funny thing about the yacht club is at the entrance there is a wall of pretty wooden boxes with names of members on them. That is where they can keep their alcohol ready for when they show up. Very interesting. Someone had even brought in a half barrel of beer.

At Patti’s Restaurant they just bring you the glasses and you serve yourself. Then they charge $2.00 for the use of the glass.

We took the courtesy car to Paducah for the BBQ Festival. We got some ribs and chicken. WOW, that stuff is good. Another highlight was the tow boat. They were giving tours. After seeing them up and down the rivers it was fun to see how they work from the inside. The Tows maneuver with two props and two rudders ahead and behind each prop. You can imagine putting one engine forward and the other astern and control things with the rudders. The tow we saw was brand new. Rolf was in his element chatting up the captain to find out how the controls and computers work. I think this was one of favorite things of the trip so far, for him, not necessarily for me.

Here is Rolf discussing proper boat handling with the skipper.

Nice lazy day. After all we get a day off from this grueling pace. Actually I sat below most of the afternoon and listened to the packer game on Sirius radio. It is hard not to be able to watch when they are doing well. I didn’t want to put the outside speakers on because our neighbors were home and they are from Canada. So when I told them we were going to listen to the Packer game, they said “Who?” So I figured the game going full blast would just be annoying. But I did make them look at Brett Farve’s picture on the cover of USA Today. I am sure they were impressed.

Here is Kathy in the tow boat galley. Looks like home.
