"About Norske"
Our
Tartan 3700 is a very
comfortable performance cruiser made by Fairport Yachts. She was
purchased in 2003 from a Norwegian man married to a Polish woman. Her
original name was "Norski" which is the Polish spelling of a
Norwegian word. Being Norwegian I changed the name to "Norske".
I (Rolf) started sailing at the age
of 11 in Sheboygan. I raced Lightning's as a teenager. After medical
school I returned to my home town of Sheboygan and started racing in the
Sheboygan Yacht Club races. I upgraded boats several times. Have had
C&C's and Tartans. Most recently a C&C 35 Mk 3 named "Adrenalin". One of
the best things I like about boating is that the whole family can
participate no matter what their age and level of expertise. Since our
four children were small we have cruised for 2 weeks with them each
summer. As they grew they also joined our racing crew for many years.
Now that they are grown and have children of their own they have their
own boats, but continue to join us for cruising and a new generation is
starting to build the memories that keep us going in the winter. As we
neared retirement, we decided to get out of racing and purchased
"Norske". We have actively resisted any racing gear and are settling
into the cruising life. Can you imagine a microwave, water heater, TV,
anchor windlass and bimini on a racing boat?
Kathy is a retired Registered Nurse
originally from Door
County. She has become an excellent sailor and enjoys living aboard as
much, or more, than I do. She was always part of the racing crew and
very seldom missed a race in spite of working full time as a nurse. One
other thing she likes to do is cook. We do have a reputation in our club
of having a very well fed crew. Other crews occasionally "stop in" after
a race to see what's cooking. We have also worked together for about 30
years. So we figure we can get along well for long periods of time.
We are confident that this trip
will be a fun adventure for us to remember . We are really looking
forward to getting started. We will be selling our house in spring 2007
and will move aboard in June.
